THE CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT.
The following twenty-four States have ratified the Con-
stitutional amendment abolishing slavery: Illinois, Feb. 1, 1865. Rhode Island, Feb. 2, 1865 Maryland, Feb. 3, 1865 Massachusetts, Feb. 3, 1865 New York, Feb. 3, 1865 Pennsylvania, Feb. 3, 1865 West Virginia, Feb. 3, 1865 Michigan, Feb. 4, 1865 Maine, Feb. 7, 1865 Ohio, Feb. 8, 1865 Kansas, Feb. 8, 1865 Minnesota, Feb. 8, 1865 East Virginia, Feb. 9, 1865 Indiana, Feb. 13, 1865 Nevada, Feb. 16, 1865 Louisiana, Feb. 17, 1865 Missouri, Feb. 24, 1865 Wisconsin, Feb. 24, 1865 Vermont, March 9, 1865. Tennessee, April 5, 1865 Arkansas, April—, 1865. Connecticut, May 4, 1865 Iowa, June 30, 1865 New Hampshire, June 30,
1865.
It has been rejected by three States: by Delaware, Feb.
8, 1865; by Kentucky, Feb. 23, 1865; and by New Jersey,
March 1, 1865. The new State, Colorado, will soon rati-
fy the amendment. North Carolina has embodied the
amendment as a part of her State Constitution; and it
will be ratified by the Southern States themselves, per-
haps, ere it is by New Jersey and Delaware.
